Resources for Transgender and Nonbinary People

Not that long ago there were few sources for information for and about transgender and nonbinary people. Happily, that is no longer the case. There are now thousands!

Rather than list every resource we can identify, we have opted to primarily list meta-resources– websites and organizations that are not only helpful in and of themselves, but  provide their own, often extensive lists of resources. This lets us provide more information in less space.

 

TransWeek

 

First, let’s point out ourselves. TransWeek is a week-long conference and celebration for transgender and nonbinary people and their partners, families, and supporters. It has been held every October since 1974 in Provincetown, on Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. Provincetown is and always has been an extraordinarily diverse and accepting town, and the Fair is a place to learn, make new friends, and strengthen your relationships. More than that, it provides time and space for you to present

Some Local Massachusetts Resources

 

 

Because TransWeek is held in the Northeastern United States, and because many of our attendees live in Massachusetts and surrounding states, we list here the First Event conference and a few lists of resources in Massachusetts.

First Event is a conference held in January or February of every year in Boston.

Fenway Health offers a wide range of services to trans and gender nonconforming people.

 The Stonewall Center at University of Massachusetts at Amherst maintains a resource guide for Western Massachusetts.

The Government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts maintains this list of LGBTQ Community Resources.

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition features this portal to helpful resources.

 

Some Global Resources

 

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health is the world’s foremost professional organization for physicians, mental health professionals, and others who work with transgender and gender nonbinary people. Their website has much information and lists many resources.

TransgenderCare maintains this extensive database of helping professionals.

Britain’s The Guardian newspaper offers this trangender advice.

The Society for the Second Self is an organization for heterosexual crossdressers and their families.

 

There are many other resources for support for transgender and gender nonconforming people Use Google or ask someone for a referral. And don’t forget–there are thousands of books and videos by and about our community. Check out YouTube and online booksellers.
