RENTAL SCAM ALERT FROM PROVINCETOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

Some people booking their vacation in Provincetown over the internet have recently fallen prey to scammers. As you shop for accommodations for Trans Week, we urge you to deal directly with innkeepers. Below, you’ll find the phone numbers of inns we recommend.

This from Seaman’s Bank:

The Provincetown Police Department is warning about rental scams using the Internet. These scams often use Craig’s List but have also involved other sites such as VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner).

The scammers advertise a legitimate property with pictures and a realtor description. The scammers will then correspond with the victim and direct them to a fake real estate company or person[s]. This “company” will then have the victim execute a bogus rental agreement and have them mail a check or wire funds to a specified account or location.

When the victim arrives in Provincetown, there will be no actual rental property and the victim will have lost their money.

The Provincetown Police Department urges anyone with concerns regarding a possible scam rental to contact the Provincetown Police Detective Division: Detective Meredith K. Lobur or Detective Richard Alves at (508) 487-1212.

Trans Week is unlike other transgender conferences in many ways, but perhaps the most important is this: Our events are not limited to a single hotel, and our attendees stay in small inns and bed and breakfasts all over town. Some attendees band together and rent condos and entire houses. Some have even brought their motor homes and stayed in campgrounds! Our attendees go anywhere and everywhere in Provincetown in safety and without fear.

Provincetown is a tourist destination, and tourist towns are not known for being inexpensive–but you’ll find a wide range of accommodations in Provincetown, some of which are surprisingly affordable.

You can choose between hundreds of small inns and B&Bs with decors ranging from shabby chic to fabulously elegant, or from several larger inns; it’s all up to you.

In case you need help, here are some suggestions.

Recommended Places to Stay

The inns mentioned here have been brought to our attention by TransWeek attendees who have found them to be comfortable and clean, and the staff supportive. All all convenient to TransWeek activities, and are all welcoming to trans and gender-nonbinary people. Other inns will welcome you, and we do not mean to suggest otherwise, but these are the establishments that have been repeatedly endorsed by attendees.

All offer discounts for registered TransWeek attendees. Discounts apply to the published seasonal rates for late October, and are in effect during TransWeek. If you arrive early or depart late, different rates may apply for those days.

Some inns require a minimum stay. When contacting the innkeepers, be sure to mention that you are in town for TransWeek and ask them about discounts for registered attendees.

We attempt to keep this page up to date, but discounts sometimes change or are discontinued. Talk to your innkeepers about their policies– and please let us know if we need to update the information for that inn.

Please note: web-based booking services don’t always have correct information on discounts. We suggest you call the inn directly to ensure your reservation and get the best rate.
